## What the list shows today

The 3,275 kittens on the list today are spread across 67 counties; the most are listed in Wake County (277), Alamance County (276) and Orange County (241). About 38% are listed by rescues and 62% by public and nonprofit shelters, and about 44% live in foster homes rather than at a shelter, so a visit may need an appointment. 122 are already marked adoption pending.

## About kittens

A new kitten settles in best in a small, quiet room with fresh water, food and a litter box close by, and time to come out on its own.

Ages come from each shelter and are often an estimate. A puppy or kitten here is listed by its shelter as under one year old, and a senior dog as eight years or older.
