Every known low-cost spay/neuter provider and assistance program in North Carolina, mapped and counted. 16 of our 100 counties have none at all.
Counts include surgical clinics, voucher and assistance programs, and TNR groups. Compiled and verified by NC Pet Project, 9 August 2026. Each organization was checked against its own website. Population: US Census Population Estimates, 2024 vintage.
A listing is not always a clinic. Of the 116 organizations we verified, only 39 (34%) actually perform surgery. The rest pay toward a surgery done somewhere else, or point you to a provider who does it.
So every entry below is labelled. Clinic means you can book surgery there. Assistance means they help pay for it or issue a voucher you use elsewhere. Referral means they direct you to someone who does the surgery.

We checked every listing on this page against the organization’s own website, but programs open, close and move all the time. If something here is wrong, or you run a spay/neuter program that belongs on this list, email us at info@ncpetproject.org and we will update it.
Method and Limits
- Every organization was checked individually against its own website on 9 August 2026. Phone numbers, addresses, service areas and whether the program still exists were confirmed at the source rather than copied from another directory.
- Thirteen organizations were removed. Five had closed or gone defunct, including the Spay and Neuter Clinic of Alamance County (closed 27 May 2026), Spay Stokes and Brother Wolf’s mobile clinic (closed indefinitely after flood damage). Two were duplicate listings of the same clinic, three were full-service private practices rather than low-cost providers, and the rest no longer run a spay/neuter service.
- Nine organizations were added that were missing entirely, including providers in Rowan, Pender, Polk, McDowell, Macon, Vance and Anson counties. Several service areas were corrected: one mobile clinic had been listed under five counties in the wrong half of the state.
- Twenty-two organizations are held back because we could not reach their websites to confirm they still operate. They are left off rather than published unverified.
- Distance is straight-line from each county’s geometric center, not drive time, and not weighted by where people live. It understates travel for anyone away from the center and for mountain and coastal counties where roads are indirect.

Call the statewide SpayNC Helpline on 1-888-623-4936, Monday to Friday, noon to 4pm. They keep track of mobile clinics and one-off clinic days that no directory can stay ahead of.
Our own voucher program is paused while we raise funding for the next round. The fastest way to reopen it is to help us fund it, or to push the state to put real money behind spay/neuter.
