Rabbits listed for adoption

All adoptable pets How this list works

Listings from 348 North Carolina shelters and rescues, checked October 21, 2026. Each pet links to its shelter, and the full list is on shelters and rescues. Pets are adopted every day, so a pet shown here may already have found a home.

What the list shows today

The 51 rabbits on the list today are spread across 8 counties; the most are listed in Wake County (18), Guilford County (10) and Mecklenburg County (10). About 55% are listed by rescues and 45% by public and nonprofit shelters, and about 82% live in foster homes rather than at a shelter, so a visit may need an appointment. Of the 41 with an age listed, the typical (median) age is about a year.

From the shelter and rescue listings NC Pet Project read on October 21, 2026. Each shelter sets its own labels, ages and foster status.

About rabbits

A spayed or neutered rabbit living indoors usually lives 8 to 12 years, so adopting one is a long commitment. Rabbits are among the animals most often surrendered to shelters, many of them bought on impulse at Easter. Indoors is safest: rabbits kept in outdoor hutches live only 3 to 6 years on average.

Each shelter labels its own animals. Some list a rabbit or guinea pig only by its breed, or not at all, so a pet that fits this page may only show on the full list of other pets, and a label can be a staff member's best guess.
